Description

Brechfa Forest Mountain Bike Trails are located in South Wales, Camarthenshire is home to 3 fantastic mountain bike trails that guarantee a smile from all calibre's of rider!

With trails ranging from the Blue graded Derwen trail that provides an excellent introduction to riding at Brechfa onto the red graded Gorlech trail with big climbs but amazing rewards from the long sweeping descents on offer. The Raven trail designed and built by the man behind Bike Park Wales, Rowan Sorrell is graded black and certainly not one to miss!

Cycling and mountain biking trails at Brechfa Forest

Derwen Trail (Green - 9.7km)

The Derwen Trail - Typically, green trails are all on forest roads or canal towpaths - but not in Brechfa Forest!

We aimed to create trail that engages the rider and heightens your senses giving a true taste of off-road riding. Named after the oak woodland it effortlessly flows through, the Derwen trail gives the inexperienced off-road rider a unique introduction to the world of mountain biking.

Clinging low to the valley sides, the trail eases you in with steady climbs and fun descents. Weaving through the forest you will encounter some lovely scenery and flowing terrain in what has until now been one of Wales's best kept secrets.

One ride will have you hooked and, perhaps, thinking of trying out the slightly longer blue trail which climbs a steeper bank before taking in a longer, faster descent that will have you pumping and whooping all the way to the valley bottom. The blue route is also a stepping-stone to the steeper and more technical red Gorlech route.

Derwen Trail Extension (Blue - 3.9km)
Gorlech Trail (Red - 20.1km)

This extension to the green-graded route climbs a steeper bank before taking in a longer, faster descent that will have you pumping and whooping all the way to the valley bottom.

This route is also a stepping-stone to the steeper and more technical red-graded Gorlech Trail from our car park at Abergorlech.

Gorlech mountain bike trail, named after the river Gorlech what this trail delivers in views and scenery it certainly backs up with terrain and excitement.

Carefully designed by Rowan Sorrell (accomplished rider and trial designer), the Gorlech Trail takes design and construction to new levels, the trail is a hard, fast, all weather surface which becomes more and more exciting as your skill level and speed progresses.

Soon you'll be railing the perfectly sculpted berms and huge switchbacks, jumping the step up jumps and tabletops and grinning all the way to the bottom of the exhilarating final descent. The Gorlech red route firmly puts Brechfa on the MTB Wales map as another top destination.

Raven Trail (Black - 19.1km)

The Black graded Raven trail, designed by Rowan Sorrell and Brian Rumble, raises Brechfa's take on mountain biking to the next level.

Suitable only for proficient bikers, the trail effortlessly mixes up the more traditional narrow woodland singletracks with Brechfa's signature brash descents: fast, undulating trail that sweeps between trees and flows sinuously into berms and over jumps.

This trail takes you out into the more interesting corners of the forest and creates a ride that involves the forest's unique environment, from spooky mossy overhangs to the magnificent Douglas fir Northshore Bridge.

By the end of the trail, you will have had your full artillery of trail skills tested and more than likely will be seeking your way back to the start...
