Description

Lecht 2090 Mountain Bike Trails are located high in the Cairngorms National Park, between Tomintoul and Strathdon in Aberdeenshire. Better known as one of Scotland's ski centres during the winter, The Lecht transforms into a mountain biking destination during the summer, with trails for beginners, families and more experienced riders.

Following several seasons of closure, mountain biking returned to Lecht 2090 for summer 2026 with a revamped trail network, pump track, skills area and a new uplift system. The trails range from an accessible green route through to faster blue and red descents, making The Lecht suitable for riders looking to develop their skills as well as those after gravity-focused riding.

Mountain Bike Trails

Lapwing Loop – Green

The Lapwing Loop is an easy, family-friendly trail designed as an introduction to mountain biking. Smooth surfaces, gentle gradients and wide flowing corners make it ideal for younger riders, beginners and anyone looking to build confidence off-road.

Curlew Cruise – Blue

A flowing blue-graded descent aimed at riders with some previous mountain biking experience. Curlew Cruise mixes bermed corners, rollers, small jumps and other trail features, with optional lines providing opportunities to progress as confidence increases.

Peregrine Plunge – Red

Peregrine Plunge steps up the difficulty with a more technical red-graded descent aimed at experienced mountain bikers. Expect steeper terrain, tighter singletrack and a mixture of features including berms, drops and tabletop jumps.

Buzzard Bomb – Red

Another of The Lecht's advanced trails, Buzzard Bomb provides a faster and more challenging descent with a mixture of flowing sections and technical trail features.

Pump Track & Skills Area

Alongside the main trails, Lecht 2090 has a pump track and dedicated skills area where riders can practise bike handling before heading onto the mountain. The area provides an opportunity to work on skills including cornering, balance, jumps and drops.

EasyLoop MTB Uplift

One of the standout features of the revamped bike park is its EasyLoop uplift system. Rather than using the ski centre's chairlift, riders and their bikes are pulled uphill using a mountain bike-specific tow system, reducing the amount of climbing required between runs and allowing more time to be spent riding the descents.

Uplift tickets can be booked through The Lecht, and riders should check the latest operating times and trail availability before travelling.

Facilities

The Lecht's main day lodge provides useful facilities for riders, including a café, toilets and parking. There is currently no mountain bike hire available at the centre, so riders will need to bring their own bike and appropriate riding equipment.

Getting There

Lecht 2090 is situated on the A939 between Tomintoul and Strathdon in the eastern Cairngorms. Its high-altitude location offers impressive views across the surrounding mountains and makes it accessible from areas including Royal Deeside, Speyside, Aberdeen and Aviemore.

As opening days, uplift availability and trail conditions can change, check directly with The Lecht before making a journey.
