Your stinky is one of the nicest stinky's Ive seen and clearly stronger now that you have uprated lowers and stays. I dont think bikes should be rated on the basis of only "?6000 super bikes" getting 10's. rather it should be whether the owner has made the best of his existing bike with the upgrades made. In this regard your stinky def gets a 10!

yeah, i dont like going up on it (unless its up a ramp!) i use the marin for xc rides (and dh too, but its just way more pedalable than this bike) and this for falling off on dh rides. im not as worried about damaging this bike (it was cheaper lol), the only part im worried about damaging is the ridiculously expensive brakeset. its really not getting any more common though, theres loads of stinkys yes but they are all mostly newer and none exactly like this. if anything older bikes are rarer as most have broken.....

well, yeah a bit but it did get fixed and the new bit has an extra bit welded in so HOPEFULLY it won't happen again, but anyone with a standard chainstay is at risk.....

yeah, they are black now, i dont quite get what you mean? when these wheels finally die i was thinking of getting halo sas in black with the white halo logo to match the colour of kona logo. or something like them anyway. some hope hubs would be nice to match the brakes too.

these forks would go on the marin (with a headset swap) but the marins forks wont go on here leaving this without any forks. and i dont think i can be bothered to swap the brakes either, cheers for rating!

my upgraded GT idrive got nicked and i got this with the £1,600 voucher for halfords (BOO!) from the excellent people at norwich union insurance then added the M6, 888's and other bits and bobs afterwards.

My mate has just bought the 08 version and I had a quick go on it the other day- great bike, felt like I had been riding it for years! Nice with the braided hoses and some quality Hope brakes- a worthy upgrade. The red and black theme is also pretty cool.

I know what you mean about Kona's going down in price after a year - Someone bought one of the Whistler Stab Deluxes for a knockdwn price and I bought it off him via eBay for £680. That's not bad for a bike with a Marzocchi Roco and 888's and full Diabolus kit. But then I found out I was moving to Aus, so I gave it a polish and recently sold it for £850... :D

no, i dont race it, although i like to think i go pretty fast on it! and it doesnt feel that much different to the old chainstay to be honest. i just hope the extra gusset means that this one wont snap.

i was quite dissapointed with the avids. as i previously mentioned, both (front & rear) were leaking straight from the box! as i was fitting them to my bike i pulled the lever to center the caliper over the disc and saw the fluid oozing out from one of the bolts near where the hose enters the caliper. this only happened when i applied pressure to the lever. if this fault was only on one brake i could maybe give avid the benifit of doubt and put it down to a flaw in manufacturing or something, but they BOTH had the same problem. i must say its not what i expected from such a well known brand and has put me right off avid for now. im very happy with the hopes i got sent as replacements for the faulty avid.

Thanks for the info i was looking at some avid codes 08 too, i have hayes stroker most useless brakes i have used for along time think i will try the hopes out they do look sweet and heard nothing but praise for them.

i really like them. they are much better than the hayes that came on the bike. they are easily the best brakes i have had. but ive only used diatech anchor and hayes 9 before so can only really compare them to those. i was going to get avid codes 08 but they were both leaking from out the box so i sent them back and got these hopes instead.

i did consider getting white parts for it but as they are becoming quite common on most bikes now i thought is go with the stealthy black look that the bike comes in. thats why most of the parts ive changed are in keeping with how it looked when i bought it.

neither did i. i changed to the 888's within a week! the drop-offs suck. as do the standard hayes brakes after a while. as my riding progressed after i got this bike, i found they wernt powerful enough. im loving my new hopes.

got to be a 10 (its mine). although there are a few parts i would like to upgrade/change. such as the headset, seat and chain guide. and the bikes quite heavy at the moment. but heavy usually means strong and it does get ridden really hard.
