The 6 Hour Grit & Grime MTB Challenge has been developed to test the mettle of mountain bikers to the full.

The event will cover a mixture of woodland, stone and clay tracks with at least one water crossing over a two mile lap utilising a selection of sections from our MTB Challenge Series routes. The event will have two classes for Men and Women alike. A solo class and a two person team class. The solo class winner will be the rider who completes the most laps and sets the fastest recorded time for those laps in the full six hours between 09:00hrs and 15:00hrs. The lap the rider is on after the 15:00hr cut off time will not count. Solo riders can make use of the pit area as they wish but the clock will be running during the whole six hours which will include time stopped. The two person team class will consist of two riders who can share the riding of the course. Only one of the riders will be allowed on the course at one time and change overs must take place in the designated pit area where the ‘resting rider’ shall remain whilst their team mate is out on the course. There will be no restriction on the amount of times riders can change but the clock will be running during the whole six hours and the winners will be the team who have completed the most laps of the course in the fastest overall time between 09:00hrs and 15:00hrs. The lap a rider is on after the 15:00hr cut off time will not count. The event will be chip timed by Sports Timing Solutions. The event is designed to be a test of endurance and preparation is paramount to successfully completing the six hours. Physical fitness and training for this event are obviously very important, this is not a ‘Sunday ride out’ and was never designed to be. This is a test of riding ability, stamina and physical fitness in difficult conditions. Bike preparation is also important and spares must be carried for the most basic problems which may be encountered along the course. The pit area will have mechanical support and a selection of spares on sale. One important consideration is that all bikes must be fitted with lights. The rear light must be lit at all times throughout the event on a constant light (not pulsing) as the wooded track areas will be dimly lit in places even in the middle of the day in December. Warm drinks and snacks will be available adjacent to the pit area. Drinks bottle top ups will be available also. The competitor’s car park will be adjacent to the pit area and start / finish. As the event draws closer regular updates will be broadcast on the Vuelta Sport Facebook page- https://www.facebook.com/vueltasport/
