For this ride we’re joining in with the Muckle Toon Festival in the town of Langholm, about 20 minutes over the border in Scotland.
There’s a full programme of events planned, including planned walks, a cross country run, and of course two days cycling in the great Scottish countryside. This ride is truly special; not only will you be leaving Basecamp on a 22% one mile ascent toward the iconic Hugh MacDiarmid memorial high above the town of Langholm, you will be timed as part of our King and Queen of the hill competition; an incredible hill climb with some brilliant prizes on offer (the climb is included in the entry price but participation is optional).
Once recovered, enjoy the heathery singletrack descents that Whita hill has to offer.Through the mud and sweat keep an eye out for lone Scottish pipers and the odd ice cream van that might have you pausing for a well-deserved break. The trail will have you climbing and descending three of the hills that shelter the town (4 on the long route) on exposed natural trails before returning to Basecamp for some good old fashioned Scottish hospitality.
