Lovely bike...I used to have a Heckler X....I nearly bought the superlight instead but the bloke in the shop advised against it...he pretty much said I was too fat for one...!!

Very nice, although i have to disagree on the brakes. Had Avid Elixir 5 SL on my 2011 pitch pro but they were unreliable, but if they work for you then that's all that matters. An honest 10

KarmicReaper replied... on 25 February 2011

Cheers fella, That picture is quite old, I tried to update it yesterday but the website relisted the bike in Rate My Ride with the old photo again.

The forks aren't on back to front. They're designed that way, as it's better than having the brace at the front. Manitou patented it so other manufactures cannot copy it! Having the brace at the back rather than the front makes a stiffer fork, or you can have less material in the brace making it just as stiff as another fork with a front brace but lighter as you need less material.

Manitou forks reputation a few back wasn't great but the company were bought by Hayes a couple of years ago and are now making some excellent forks and shocks. The R7 is a great XC/race fork and the Dorado long travel fork is absolutely stunning. The Merida race team used the R7 fork on their bikes and were the best team around winning plenty of events. I would never go back to Rock Shox again and Fox are just so expensive they're just not worth the extra £££'s unless you have money to burn.

Check out the Merida video on the Manitou web page.

Thanks.

I need to update the photo. Brakes, handlebars, grips, seatpost, QR skewers and stem are all out of date in that photo. Have been waiting for a day with nice weather to get some shots of it out on the trails and will then post a new pic.

i give it a 10, good looking bike and great spec you cant beat a well sorted Santa Cruz

KarmicReaper replied... on 22 December 2010

Cheers fella. must update the photo as that one still has the titec stem and raceface seatpost, both of which have been upgraded to Ritchey WCS. Also thinking of changing the flat bar/bar ends for a Ritchey WCS low rizer bar.

Love the superlight, always fancied a speed machine.
I'd ditch the bottle cage though.

KarmicReaper replied... on 30 October 2010

well it's useful for holding my bottle, not keen on hydration back packs!

Really nice bike! Looks like it would ride like a dream. really like the paint job.

KarmicReaper replied... on 21 September 2010

Thanks, looks even better in the flesh! You can't really see the red hubs or cassette in that photo and I always think the bar ends look weird in pictures but totally fine in reality. There are some other pictures on my profile pages which show off the hubs better.

likes pretty light from the specs how much does she weigh?

KarmicReaper replied... on 17 September 2010

I only have a pair of electronic bathroom scales. I stood on the scales and recorded my weight, then did the same holding the bike and recorded the difference which was 11.8kg. That weight includes the computer, bottle cage and the SPD pedals. Not too sure how accurate the bathroom scales really are though. Next time I meet a friendly fisherman on the canal towpath I'll ask him to weigh it with his fish scales which should give me a fairly accurate reading.

Cheers Dude could u rate it please

KarmicReaper replied... on 7 September 2010

Thanks for the rating. Really glad I chose the red hubs, nearly got the white rims but glad I didn't. Bike looks really sleek in the anodised grey with just a few bits of red and white but I've tried to have a tastefull look and think I've managed it pretty well. There are some other pics on my profile pages with close ups! :) Nice Kona Stinky BTW.

konarob replied... on 6 September 2010

Sorry don't know what happened to the writing as I am on my iPod it should say they really stand out from the rest of the bike.
Sorry

A not quite perfect 9.9 really, just need some nicer brakes for the full 10! It rides great and no more lower back pain since swapping from a hardtail ;)

KarmicReaper replied... on 26 February 2011

Have done the brakes now and has made all the difference. The Elixir brakes are superb.
