We have just been at the great Wheels of Speed event in Willingen. It is a huge festival as well as a great Downhill race on the same course as they held the World Cup round a few years ago.

It's no big news to hear that Lopes came down Vallnord mountain in 22:21.84 minutes, earning him the 1st qualifying spot for the MaxiAvalanche. What is news, is that he did this one day after an overnight hospital stay. Talk about a diehard competitor!

Round 3 of the Nissan UCI Mountain Bike World Cup is done and dusted, with Team Monster Energy Iron Horse's Sam Hill (AUS) retaining the World Cup Series lead after yet another podium performance, taking 5th.

Proving that he's fully recovered from shoulder surgery over winter, South Africa's Greg Minnaar (Santa Cruz Syndicate), today dominated World Cup Round 3 on the classic Nevis Range course at Fort William.

The rain that had already soaked the fourcross track on Saturday, continued overnight, increasing the technical difficulty of the downhill course. While the open corners of the upper section became slippery, the rutted forest segments offered mud and slick roots to the riders.

Washington State's Luke Strobel (Team Maxxis) plans to make his return to international racing at the UCI World Cup at Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada, after breaking his hand at the Sea Otter Classic earlier this year.
