REPORT: Woodland Riders Winter Series RD 2

28 February 2012  |   |   4 Comments

Yesterday we headed down to Tavistock again for the second round of the Woodland Riders Winter Series and with great weather along with excitement from the first round, is was going to be a top days racing. The Wideopenmag boys brought there entire force, including Rich Thomas, thus meaning the introduction of an Expert/Elite category, so making competition high in Seniors as there was a top spot to be taken.

Sticking to the more open side of the hill, the track used was Krash track. Being made of three main sections... The top was pretty much a sprint with a small kicker and some flatfish roots to keep it interesting. The middle was a lot of fun, featuring some nice corners and switchbacks. Then the bottom was like the top, a sprint to the line keeping your pedals above the tree stumps.

After a fairly mellow practice as always, race runs began underway and Jay Williamson set a blinding time of 1:16.556 just under a second quicker than team mate Rich and two seconds quicker than local pro Ash Mullane. In Seniors Bill Colwill set the fastest time putting three seconds into Zak Hurrell. Other potential winner Harry Steer had a mechanical I believe and Olly Hooper making his comeback had a big over the bars, writing off his first run. Charlie Ross smashed the Juniors putting four seconds into Ryan Tunnell, Andy Boyle put the same time into second in Masters as well Keith Saunders in Vets. And in a good field in the Hardtail category Curtis Saunders was just taking the lead.

By the time second runs came around the track was running an absolute treat, who would have believed it was in February. Ash stepped up his game in the Elite/Experts but couldn't stop Jay from taking the win by only 0.130 seconds! Jack Bell in Youth maintained a solid win as did Charlie Ross in Juniors. Harry Steer and Zak Hurrell both stepped up their times, but could not knock Bill Colwill off the top step. Andy Boyle remained first in Masters as did Keith Saunders in Vets. Jon Credicott had an incredible time of 1:24.777 in Hardtails to take the win.
