The Manx 100 is certainly not suited to anyone who looks at cycling as a gentle pastime! Instead this is a full-on, arduous 100 mile or 100 kilometre ultra marathon mountain bike challenge.
Aimed fairly and squarely at battle hardened, experienced and skilled mountain bikers, the event is designed to test every riders’ fitness, mental strength and endurance. Traversing many of the best and most demanding trails the Isle of Man has to offer, the whole idea of the race is to push competitors way beyond their comfort zone. This really is no walk in the park!
Growing in popularity year on year, the full 100 mile course includes a gruelling 16,000 feet of climbs, with the shorter 100km event ascending a mere 3500km!
Starting and finishing at the TT Grandstand, the top competitors finish the longer course in around 11 hours, whilst the shorter version takes about seven hours, with the last riders coming home around sunset.
There are no organiser-led feed stations, Instead riders can drop pre filled bags at sign on and they will be delivered at pre determined points around the route. Self sufficient with a safety net if you choose the right kit for the bag drops!!
With around 800 arrows put out by the organiser and strategic placed marshals positioned where necessary but, other than minimal outsider support, it’s just you and the unspoilt Manx countryside for company.
If you’re looking for an unforgettable mountain bike adventure, then you’re definitely on the right track with the Manx 100!
