The inaugural Dukes Weekender is a cycling festival starting in Aberfoyle. The Dukes Gravel Enduro ventures into the mountains and forests of the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs national park, with some extra twists and turns including a closed road hill climb prologue up the iconic Dukes Pass. Included in the weekend there will be a shorter 10km "Mini Enduro" for families and children on the Sunday morning.
The Gravel Enduro is a socially orientated event that explores an almost entirely off-road route on a variety of forest tracks, moorland paths, walker’s trails and singletrack in the National Park. For competitive riders, the event is based on an "enduro" format with a variety of electronically timed stages. It is suitable for mountain bikes, cyclo-cross bikes as well as specialist gravel bikes. The route is made up of 2 circuits from the village giving competitors the chance to stop off in the event village at half distance to enjoy some of the locally produced food on offer, grab a change of clothes or pick up a spare tube.
Included in the Gravel Enduro entry fee is the prologue stage: Saturday evenings 3km closed road hill climb race up the iconic Dukes pass. This will also count as a timed prologue stage in the overall Dukes Gravel Enduro. This rare chance to race on a closed road will be a fantastic spectacle for riders and spectators alike.
The Dukes "Mini Enduro" will follow part of the Dukes Gravel Enduro route out of the main event village on a 10km circuit while the adults are further afield. Included in this children will be able to compete on two of the same stages as the adults on flowing riverside strails and forest singletrack using magnetic timing equipment to add to the experience. Despite the competitive stages the emphsis of this event will be completion and all children will get a goodie bag at the finish to celebrate their success.
Saturday evening will have a kermesse feel with locally sourced food, drinks, family entertainment, the screening of outdoor and adventure films plus interviews and presentations from Scottish Cycling Legends.
