Air Maiden, the original Scottish all-women’s freeride event, returns to Glentress in mid-May.
After a three-year break, Lynne Aitchison (now Armstrong) and the team are bringing back this hugely popular weekend of coaching to the Tweed Valley.
During its five-year reign at Glentress Freeride Park, around 50 women travelled each year from around the UK to become a ‘Maiden’, attracted by the combination of highly qualified and experienced coaches - and the chance to pick up new riding skills and reach your potential as a rider.
There’s no pressure to compete against other riders. All that’s needed is a mountain bike, an idea of what challenges you’d like to overcome, from jumps and drops to skinnies and berms, and a healthy dose of enthusiasm.
While the event offers a chance to ride with and learn from some of the UK’s most talented riders, there is also a focus on having fun with like-minded female riders of all standards in a relaxed and supportive environment.
It’s a format that has helped hundreds of women to push themselves out of their comfort zone. In fact, every year most Maidens attempt - and nail - the event’s purpose-built trick jump in what is always a very grand finale to a fantastic weekend.
