A perfectly formed rough diamond is Sheffield’s sporting crown it has been running every spring since 2011. The race has always been that little different to your average MTB event. Where else do you get to see 10 year old rippers racing against World Cup stars and World Champions, not to mention one of the largest number of female racers in the UK.

The race is all about putting the riders and spectators first and giving back to the trails the keep us grinning. From the packed goodie bag at sign on, to the ever fun but challenging track, with wall to wall spectators cheering you onto glory while drinking and eating their fill, to the after party where you can celebrate your achievements.

Auctions

Left over from last years race we still have two frames for auction from our incredibly generous sponsors Santa Cruz and Cotic. Santa Cruz are offering a 5010 CC XL frame in black with yellow. This frame retails at £3000 so please, sensible bids only. Cotic are offering a brand new 5th generation BFe frame in any colour and any size you like, as long as they have stock. This retails at £449 so please be generous, all the proceeds go back in the trails which you will hopefully ride these rad bikes on!

So what can you expect from this years race?

Local trail builders Bike Track will be refreshing and changing the track so there will be a few fun changes, not to mention the odd curveball. Who can forget the berm gap? Equalling the Jolly gap jump for wild and sketchy moves and crowd cheers.  Once the high speed rollercoaster of a track is negotiated, you’ll drop into the cauldron of noise of the bomb hole finish arena, ready for another run or a bit of a refreshment.

The event village in the bomb hole is where you will find excellent locally sourced food from pizza to pulled pork, with great coffee and beers provided by Bradfield Brewery. A wide range of exhibitors will be on hand, local long-term supporters Cotic, to Santa Cruz bicycles, the ever amazing race merchandise stand and everything else you could want in between.

This year’s race entries will be going live at 19:00 on the 25th March and will return to the fastest finger first format, so make sure that you are all set and ready. Some categories will sell out in minutes! Entries are through Eventbrite and are £35 for under 18s and £40 for overs.

But don’t worry, even without a place in the race we promise that you will have one of the best days out of year. Over 3000 spectators last years certainly thought so.
