Osttirol: season starts for the Bikepark Großglockner Resort

Bikepark "Großglockner Resort" is opening its doors on Saturday, June 25. About a month after Bikepark Lienz, the second East Tyrolean bike park kicks off operations. While Bikepark Lienz focuses on classic downhill action, Bikepark "Großglockner Resort" scores with spectacular views of the Alps and many opportunities for varied days on the mountain bike.

Located practically at the base of the Großglockner, Austria's highest mountain at 3,798 meters, the bike park offers numerous unique experiences. "The Glockner trails are unique in their kind, as they offer an all-around package for mountain bikers, from Alpine terrain to trails in the forest and flowing jump trails," says Gunnar Kopf, who manages Glockner Adventures & Glockner Bikeschool.

For riders that want to experience serious speed in the midst of an alpine panorama, mountain bikers have three main trails at their disposal: the Gornerwald Trail, the Adler Trail and the Temblerfeld Trail, all of which offer the finest singletrail action. The Gornerwald Trail, the upper part of which is particularly appealing to experienced bikers, begins at  1970 meters above sea level and winds its way down the mountain in just under 2.3 kilometres, going from the middle station down to Kals am Großglockner, offering a vertical descent of over 400 meters. Flow and views of the Großglockner massif are guaranteed on the  Adlertrail, which has been hand-shaped and leads riders through more than 60 steep turns,  over rollers and jumps, all within its 3.7 kilometer length. The Temblerfeld Trail is a 600-meter long jump line ideal for riders practising and perfecting you’re their jumping technique.

Outside of the bike park, the resort offers even more variety: around 60 kilometres of mountain bike trails, spread over two locations, will appeal to mountain bikers of all levels. The five marked mountain bike tours "Kerer Alm" (10.3 km), "Cimaross-Goldriedrunde" (5.3 km), "Klaunzerberg" (24 km), "Gornerbergweg" (11.4 km) and "Kals-Matreier Törl" (1.8 km) deliver plenty of views and fun and can sometimes also be combined with downhill action on the single trails. Franz Theurl, president of the Osttirol Tourism Association, knows that the Bikepark Großglockner Resort also makes the hearts of nature lovers beat faster: "The Bikepark has been spared from mass tourism. The nature is extraordinary with many plants and animal species. And it's only about 45 minutes away from Lienz."

Gunnar Knopf adds, "It’s always an exhilarating feeling to get off the gondola at 2400 meters in good weather when the Großglockner and the countless 3000-meter peaks are shining out at you. The Alpine experience with the bike is euphoric."

With its two bike parks, Bikepark Lienz and Bikepark Großglockner Resort, Osttirol is a paradise for mountain bikers and nature lovers. The region also has a total of 600 kilometres of marked mountain bike routes suitable for every level.
