Summary:
Good XC terrain, lots of ascent, decent broken road / bridleway descents - but not in Mac Forest itself.

Review:
Area description is misleading.
Mac forest is a good starting point for XC riding in the area, with parking and a cafe at weekend, but United Utilities simply allow bikers to use a fire road loop that goes around the forest. Its 'popularity is due to an old broken road 'Charity Lane' which runs down the forest border, but that is it for technical riding. The only provision UU have made for bikes is a poorly built short link section between fireroad and road and its thick mud most of the year. As highlighted in the reviews, this is no trail centre for the west peak and its a crime that it isn't! The route offered at the visitor centre 'grits and gears II' uses Mac forest as a starting point, continuing to a high point of the Cat and Fiddle Pub and then along to Wildborough Clough or 3 Shires; arguably a lot better area and starting point for riding. Be warned though the road up to the Cat and Fiddle is a major rat run linking Mac and Buxton, and you earn any down hill fun with a lot of ascent. Good for training though.

The downhill tracks mentioned are members only, info found on facebook and chained off when not in use.

Summary:
It ok.

Review:
Did the Forest Fever Route today. So what did I think of it? Well I think it good for a workout. There are no burns there like you get at a trail park. It a slow trail, as there are no fast parts on it, but I was riding in the rain and wearing glasses. What can I say about Charity lane, well it full of small rocks. Plus due too the rain, it was like a stream.

Would I go again? 100 percent yes. But not when it raining.

A great training route once you know the good bits.

I have been riding this route twice a week for ten years and still find it enjoyable and challenging. a Charity lane is a great downhill and a technical climb for the very fittest, my son can usually manage it.
