Good Fun
Review:
I ride a similar route but start in North shields and take in the Fish Quay to add some steep hills.
The road gives you the chance to really get the heart rate up. There's also now a skate/bike park in Whitley Bay, which looks like fun (always too busy when I go past). The Dene has lots of fun features and without being too tricky it offers a lot of fun - with some extra detours if you know where to look.
Also, a route back that takes in Northumberland park in North Shields is good as there are some single track trails through there. There is also a jump behind the trees and some fun gravel corners.

A great one for beginners to intermediate riders.
Review:
The most interesting part is Hollywell Dene but the ride along the coast is nice too.
This is a great mix of sight seeing and mountain biking. It's pavement or road down hill all the way to the coast followed by a beautiful sea view as you pass the various bays and beaches until you reach the light house which then leads to some fun riding as you follow the river through the dene to Hollywell (would be great if it was maybe fives times longer) and then a nice flat ride back to the start point along bridle ways and old rail lines.
Best bits are the fact that it's long enough but mostly flat so it's not hard work and the dene is alot of fun for intermediate riders.
Worst bits. The route's not sign posted so you'll need a map and be able to read it unless you know the area.
