An update on smb102's review:

The last half of 2008 has seen some big changes to the area. The area above Mars has been massively improved being predominantly a freeride area with lots of jumps drops and berms with a new step down to step up being a highlight and a massive drop been dug off to the right.

The local riding base has multiplied about 10 times over with help from a facebook group call 'cornwall freeriders' which is where all the organisation of ride/build days goes on as well as lots of banter!

Over the other side of poldice aka the downhill track has never been the best compared to places such as Tavistock and since the local council now owns the land, via a compulsory purchase order, they decided the mine shafts were unsafe and in the process of recapping them have utterly destroyed the main run as well as the other sorter ones. However there are plans to rebuild them once the council have finished the job.

In conclusion poldice is great fun and definitely check out the facebook group http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=2376845&id=732945733&ref=mf#/group.php?gid=2390582932&ref=ts all the locals are friendly and welcome new or visiting riders.

Summary:
Worth a visit if you're bored of 'The Track'!

Review:
A few miles from 'The Track' Poldice valley is a real Cornish adventure play ground with a few good trails with interesting features that make the most of the old mining area it's inhabiting. Re-visited it last week after a year of being away and had a blast on the 3 downhill runs, which have jumps etc built into the natural terrain. Then there's the super smooth terrain of the bottom of Mars with a few drops and jumps on clay.

A bit further on and you'll hit Unity woods, there used to be alot built here but now the council have fenced most of it off, a nice table top at the bottom though for begginners!

If you're into XC then you can also make the most of the coast to coast trail the goes from Devoran to Portreath. Bissoe Cycle hire's worth a visit as a well earned rest at their cafe.

The trails are fun but since last year the guys who use them regularly have been a bit slack in maintenance and the downhill runs are becoming very sketchy, looks like the rain's washed away most of the soil leaving more rocks than ever on the runs!
