Cannock Chase trail centre is the midlands premiere destination for mountain biking with trails to suit everyone from beginner to experienced enthusiast!
Cannock Chase is home to the award winning and popular Follow the Dog and Monkey Trail mountain bike trails, as well as the Stile Cop Bike Park with it's downhill trails. It's an eclectic combination of hand built and contractor built trails that has been an ongoing project for years tanks to the chase trails volunteers.
Fairoak Trail (Green - 4km)
2.5-mile circular trail suitable for walkers and cyclists. Route traverses forest before reaching Fairoak Valley and Pools. Trail is surfaced with moderate slopes. Note: stepping stones near trail end are inaccessible for wheelchairs/strollers. Alternative return path available between pools.
Perry's Trail (Blue 4.3km)
This moderate graded trail, built in 2021, offers a smooth surface with occasional rough or muddy patches. It features flowing single track, gentle berms, gradual climbs, and rollable rock gardens - ideal for riders advancing beyond beginner level. While mostly gentle, it includes one moderate climb. Three optional sections are available for riders preparing to tackle more difficult trails.
The Monkey Trail (Red 22.8 km)
Established in 2010, this challenging red MTB trail features variable surfaces including loose stone, roots, and mud. Designed for experienced riders, it exceeds Follow the Dog trail in physical and technical difficulty, with steeper climbs and more demanding descents.
This singletrack trail includes technical elements like berms, rock gardens, boardwalks, jumps, and drop-offs, plus black-graded sections with unavoidable rocky terrain. Accessible after cycling 3.7km of Follow the Dog Trail, it's managed jointly with Chase Trails and features popular sections like Monkey's Uncle and Upper/Lower Cliff.
Follow the Dog Trail (Red 10.8 km)
Established in 2005, this classic cross-country MTB trail features variable terrain including loose stone, roots, and mud, with more climbs than Perry's Trail.
It offers technical features for riders progressing to red (difficult) level, plus black options for experienced riders, including challenging rock gardens. Managed in partnership Chase Trails, highlights include the new "Twist and Shout" and classics like "High Voltage," "Son of Chainslapper," and "Snakes 'n' Adders."
