Cycling and mountain biking trails at Kielder Forest
Kielder Mountain Bike Trail Centre is home to over one hundred miles of legendary mountain bike cross country trails in Northumberland just south of the Scottish border!
With a skills loop, Blue and Green rated family trails all the way through to the Lonesome Pine and Deadwater trails with the Severe Up and Over black trail! Kielder is a fantastic location for riders of all abilities with all the standard facilities you would expect to see at a top UK MTB trail venue.
Borderline Cycle Trail (Green 11km)
The majority of this route follows the former Border Counties railway line (operational from 1862 to 1956) making it a relatively flat and easy ride, suitable for all abilities.
Cross Border Cycle Trail (Green 48 km)
Cross border cycle This trail connects the Kielder trail network with the 7 Stanes centre at Newcastleton in Scotland.
Lakeside Way Trail (Blue 42 km)
Kielder Forest's multi-user pathway provides visitors with an exceptional experience, granting access to the lake's most picturesque shoreline areas. This trail enables guests to observe Kielder's diverse wildlife up close while exploring the natural landscape.
Osprey Trail (Blue 19 km)
The trail begins at Kielder Castle, proceeding up Forest Drive to encounter multiple sections of flowing single track as it curves along Kielder Burn and ascends into the forest. It ends at Lakeside Way, where visitors can see the Sylvan Capitalis 'Forest Head' sculpture.
Bloody Bush Trail (Red - 32 km)
The combined Lonesome Pine and Bloody Bush MTB trails offer 33 km of red-grade riding with singletrack extending to the Scottish border, connecting with existing routes in Scotland.
Deadwater Trail (Red - 10.5km)
Take in the 1,900 ft summit of Deadwater Fell which straddles the border and gives sensational 360° views from coast to coast before plummeting from the peak back down to Kielder Castle on specially constructed single track, packed full of features.
Lonesome Pine trail (Red - 18km)
Starting on the Lakeside Way, the trail heads up to the top of Purdom Pike at over 1000 feet where you will be greeted by quite simply breath-taking views of the North Tyne Valley and beyond.
To help get you across the boggy terrain of Purdom Pike is a 1000 yards of timber 'fly-over', the longest of its kind in England.
Deadwater Up and Over Trail (Black - 17.5km)
Experience the 1,900 ft Deadwater Fell summit on the border, offering spectacular 360° coast-to-coast views. Then descend to Kielder Castle on feature-rich, purpose-built single track.
