if your still running the suntour forks.. get new ones.. other than that im sure it will make a good all rounder for pub/uni/some light xc etc.. if it had some decent forks i would have scored higher.. sorry.

Its a decent bike for the money, I am a big fan of those Avid 7 V's not as good as the discs of course but still good enough for me, light weight and cheap to maintain too so its all good. I will replace and improve the rest of the parts on this bike over time and hopefully it won't get nicked.

Oh Dear, Oh dear oh dear, I'm no normally harsh, and I'm sorry, I'm sure it rides well, but with that saddle, your bar ends at that angle, and the basic spec, it's a 6 I'm afraid. I used to loves Saracen's in the 90's they used to make really good bikes, with excellent steel frames, where did it all go wrong.

kamikaze kid replied... on 25 January 2009

Aye I will give that a go when the rest of my bits arrive should be Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm gonna strip that Vega and sell the bits I think, should get a few quid back.

mega_waster replied... on 25 January 2009

Maybe it's worth a tinker. Try adjusting it all the way in one direction and all the way in the other and see if you can feel a difference

kamikaze kid replied... on 25 January 2009

Yeah they are out of my price range dude, disc brake only too so I would have to upgrade the front brake. The rebound on these XCR forks is violent bro, they do have some ajustment on top but I have left it alone for now.

mega_waster replied... on 25 January 2009

Looks so much better now. Here's an upgrade for you: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=29942 Flood damage stock I think. you've got no money for this though. Better to concentrate on thief proofing it for when you go back to uni

kamikaze kid replied... on 25 January 2009

I'm still waiting for new grips but I have changed the seat and brakes. I have just updated the photo so hopefully it looks a little better now?

kamikaze kid replied... on 24 January 2009

Thats fair enough dude, I'm gonna be using this bike to get to Uni mainly so the specs not that important. I have taken the bar ends and bell off, next on the list is the seat :D its proper huge and must go. I need to update the photo but I will wait until I have changed the seat. Do you have any suggestions to improve my bike?

Ha ha! I'm giving it ten but I'm sure that peoples ratings will bring it down in time :D feel free to suggest new parts that would make my bike ride and look better.

This is my Saracen Mantis SE. I bought it second hand just before xmas(2008). Its in brand new condition and looks to have been used maybe twice. It comes with XCR forks and SRAM X4 gears and I have fitted Avid Digit 7(2007)V-brakes. The crank is SR Suntour.
