Okefreeriders (Okehampton & Area MTB Club) are holding a northshore jam on Sunday 6th August. The event will take place at the trails built and developed by the club at Abbeyford Woods, near Okehampton.
Following the success of our first northshore jam which took place earlier this year, we're holding another event, hoping to make it even bigger and better. Okefreeriders have been building northshore trails at Abbeyford Woods near Okehampton since 2004, and the trails have been growing in popularity ever since. The woods are owned by the Forestry Commission and the club has forged a strong relationship with the organisation. 2006 has seen a lot of new trails being built with the aid of a grant provided by the Lottery funded scheme, Awards-For-All, in addition to our ever enthusiastic group of trail builders.
The event is open to non club members and we are hoping that people will attend from all over the country. There is no charge for ridingThe first event which took place on March 26th saw around 50 riders turn up to endure the wind and rain. Despite all this everyone enjoyed themselves and most said they'd return, hence the planned event. We're hoping good weather will see the number of riders swell to well over 100.
The day is set to start at 10AM, and the whole of the northshore site will be open to ride. We're then planning on having some judged sessions, with riders judged on flow and style through the various obstacles. These sessions will be judged by Norco rider Cliff Barbeary (who writes for MBUK and is manager of the Bike Park at The High Action Centre in Somerset). We've approached several bike manufacturers and distributors asking them to provide prizes, and the response has been good.
There will be food and drink provided all day in the form of a barbecue, with all proceeds going to the club.

Tracy Moseley has just won the 3rd round of the 2006 UCI World up series in Willingen, Germany and this now gives her a 143 point lead over second place on the day Sabrina Jonnier of France.
Moseley said "I am really pleased to have managed to win this third race in a row as I was not feeling very confident on the track this weekend. It was not a good course for me as it was so short and very man made, I prefer longer more natural terrain like Mont Sainte Anne last year.
Tracy is now resting in Leogang, Austria ready for another busy weekend at the 2007 Kona Product Launch and will then a week later be heading to Canada for the next round of the UCI World Cup in Qubec Canada.
"I am really looking forward to Mont Sainte Anne as I won there last year and I love the course!" Tracy said.
Fabien Barel had an ok weekend, he also like Tracy prefers longer courses with more natural terrain so this was a tough race for him, however he put up a fight and finished 7th split by just over a second to 2nd place!
In the 4X, Kamil Tatarkovic has a good race, he qualified 9th and ended up 7th, just loosing out going into the final and is now placed 5th overall after 3 rounds.
The team are now heading to Bikepark Leogang for the Kona 2007 Product Launch and will all ride the Top to Bottom Eliminator this weekend. Video of Tracy's win will soon be on konaworld.com so keep an eye out for it.

The New Ride Central downhill series designed to encourage first-timers has had to switch venues at the last minute. This week's practice/race weekend takes to Churchill - due to circumstances beyond the organiser's control the venue had to be switched from Cheddar to Churchill at the last minute.
Ride-Central launched earlier this year in and around the south-west. It's labelled as an 'entry level' event, so courses cater for all abilities.
The format for the weekend is Saturday practice with racing on the Sunday. On race day, you get two timed runs following a three hour practice session, with prizes in all categories. There's live timing and results and we're assured there'll be top commentary. Racing costs £23 for U16s and £25 for everyone else, though pre-enter and you get a healthy discount. If you want a bit more practice on the course it's open between 10am to 4pm on Saturday. It's £12 for all ages.
