UCI DH World Cup 2013: Fort William - Photo Bangers
10 June 2013 | By AngusMcIntoshThe sun has set on one hell of a days racing at Fort Bill! In one of the tightest men’s races we’ve been treated to in years, Gee Atherton took home the win from Brook Macdonald in 2nd and Stevie Smith in 3rd.
The women’s race saw Rachel Atherton finally beat her Fort William duck to take her first ever victory on home soil in quite convincing style from Madison Saracen’s Manon Carpenter in 2nd and Emmeline Ragot in 3rd.
We’ll have some more content from the Fort later in the week, but for now check out a couple of our favourite photos from yesterday!
Gee kept his cool to take his first World Cup in a long time. Will he keep up the winning streak next week? Only time well tell.
Danny Hart promised so much with his victory in quali but just couldn't hook it up in his race run and took home 7th.
Danny was the hot favourite by some margain and was tipped by many to replicate his BDS victory not so long ago but he just didn't have it in him on the day.
Taylor Vernon looked fast all weekend and was up at split 1 from Noel but a rear flat in the middle section ended his day and the chances of the GT Atherton racing triple! He'll be back and looking for more next time out!
Tahnee Seagrave looked good all weekend taking 11th in the women's category but she was a country mile ahead of the rest of the Juniours!
Manon Carpenter struggled with a bout of food poisoning at the start of the weekend but that must of been out of the system as she flew into 2nd place to make it a British 1 and 2 in the Womans race!
A tough day in the office for last years champion. Aaron Gwin could only manage 20th position on the day and sparked all sorts of debate on the web after the race... Is this just a blip or are we seeing a changing of the guard at the top?!
Scotty Mears posted a pretty good case for the weekends "biggest whip through the Scotland arch" only to be beaten by none other than...
It was awesome to see CG back in fighting form just over 12 months after that broken femur! He just squeaked in to the finals after finishing 79th in Quali! There's life in the old dog!
The track was as brutal as ever with smashed wheels the order of the day for many... We talked to one of the Trek World Racing mechanics about wheels in the pits and he reckoned they would get through about 30 wheels across the whole team in 1 Fort Bill weekend!
We'll have more World Cup coverage coming up later this week! Until then we'll leave you with this snap of Joe Smith entering orbit through the Arch!
