Team CRC/Nukeproof Skills Day At Tollymore

29 November 2011  |
Riders from the ChainReactionCycles.com/Nukeproof downhill race team hosted a skills day for local riders at the Tollymore National Outdoor Centre in Newcastle, Northern Ireland, offering a range of essential tips and advice for trail riding. Matt Simmonds, Joe Smith, Lewis Buchanan and Nigel Page helped with all the basics including bike setup, braking, cornering, body position, bunny hops and loads more. CRC Events Manager Lee Kincaid was on hand to oversee the day, and said: "This was the first time we've run an event like this, and it was a great success. 30 riders were in attendance for a masterclass from our pro race team, and the Tollymore Centre trails were the perfect place for the guys to hone their skills – from riding drop-offs to attacking bermed corners. Team CRC/Nukeproof The Beat the Pro time-trial was a fun end to the day too, with everyone going head-to-head against the pros to record the fastest time – and a chance to win a prize. The fastest time of Matt Simmonds and Lewis Buchanan's group was Winston Copeland with an awesome time of 41.98 seconds! The fastest time we had from Nigel Page and Joe Smith's group was Calvin Kirby with an excellent time of 50.40 seconds!" Both winners headed home with a brand new carbon THE Nukeproof team helmet, but nobody went home empty handed – second and third place in the groups got a set of Nukeproof bars or a Nukeproof saddle. After the prize giving everyone picked up a goodie bag which included a bike lock, water bottle and beanie. Gareth Kerr from Belfast said: "Thank you for a great day had real good fun and learnt some good skills." Beginner rider Michael Flanagan really enjoyed the day, saying: "Thanks for a great day of skills training with the Nukeproof Team at Tollymore on Saturday. The day was a great event, and only had a couple of spills."
