Southern Champs 2012 - UK Bike Park
10 October 2012 | By AngusMcIntoshThe Southern Champs were held at UK Bike Park again this past weekend, using their steep technical track Tsubo. The track featured lots of steep shoots, off camber traverses and multiple line choices. This was certainly the track to find the true Southern Champion.
The track was wet from the day befores heavy rain but the sun was breaking through the trees all morning.
With all the rain we had the week before, the track was running super slick and tacky making the top 4X section slow and the steep rooty sections very difficult. The most difficult part seemed to be a full 180 degree left hander, involving riders to take a very high line on roots to allow them to rail the corner, some others however opting to cut the corner inside.
The race ran smoothly and quickly with no delays, however having no start list and no start times was not so fun. Waiting not knowing when you were to race is a lot worse than knowing, making it carnage when riders rushed to the start ramp when their category was called.
Ben Deakin was rightly crowned this years Southern Champ, although he wasn't fastest time of the day. That belonged to Welshman Emyr Davies. Full results and video coverage below. Thanks to UK Bike Park and we look forward to the next race.
