We are kicking off events on Friday evening at 6.30pm at The Wharf Cinema, Tavistock with a screening of Anthill Films latest release, 'Strength in Numbers', a chance to see a big mountain bike film as it should be seen… on a big screen. £6 on the door and the bar is open!

On Saturday morning things move over to our Tavi Woodlands site neat Chipshop (PL19 8PB). Thanks to our landlord, Tavistock Woodlands Estates, for giving us permission to hold this free event again.

Firstly, confirmed to be showing up with bikes and goodies are Koo Bikes, Dartmoor Cycles, Cogs Bikes and Stanton Bikes. Dartmoor Cycles will have some great demo bikes available from Kona, GT, Transition and other, so get in touch with Andy to book up (www.dartmoorcycles.co.uk).

The Bike Hub from Bodmin, who recycle bikes that have binned, for kids and other will be there, with Dan giving basic mechanising tips. Dan is a self confessed bike nut and qualified cycle engineer. Dan has over fifteen years experience in the cycling industry, from mountain bike leading in the Alps to running his own cycle business in Newquay.

Gawton Summer Jam

Theres going to plenty of action at the Summer Jam, not sure its looking like summer though!

We will be running another British Cycling Go Ride Gravity event on Saturday at the Summer Jam. The Go Ride Gravity events are free for kids between about 8 - 14 who want to give gravity racing a go. There will be 3 hours of coaching from a BC qualified coach and after a break for lunch there will be a chance to take part in a short course timed race. For more info or to book your son or daughter in, get in touch with Chaz Curry at [email protected]

Fun and games on Saturday will include midday 'Freeride Frenzy', with prizes from Supersaturated Living, the Go Ride Gravity Race at 1pm. 2-3pm will be the 'Speed Freak', a run down the corkscrew to hit a police spec radar speed trap. As many runs as you can get in…fastest speed (and biggest crash!!!) wins… prizes supplied by Dartmoor Cycles. Silliness will round off at 4pm with the bunny hop competition. This year there will be 'Fully Sussed' category, who can go highest on a full bouncer, lock out not allowed!

All tracks (except a small section taped off for the Go Ride coaching) will be open to all riders, all day, for free. Please sign in before you ride. We need this to comply with our insurance and we also need to look for any dead bodies when we clear up in the evening.

Camping should be available on Saturday night at £5 per pitch. However a BIG WARNING, we have had a tonne of rain in the last few weeks, it may not happen. We do not want to make a decision until the last minute to have the greatest chance of going ahead, but if it is not available and you are travelling a distance to come to Summer Jam, there is a great little bike friendly campsite along the road at Gulworth (www.tamarvalleycamping.co.uk).

Action from last years Summer Jam.

Sunday morning turns to the serious business of the Club Championships. The title is wide open this year, as current Club Champ, Harry 'The Harpoon' Steer has disappeared off to Whistler for the season! Entry is free, but you must be a FULL member to race. Sign is at 8.30am. For full details and registration, go to www.woodlandriders-racing.co.uk.

There will be toilets, first aid and uncle's burger van on site over the weekend. No preaching, but if you bring rubbish with you, take it away, no fires or BBQs (except in the campsite), please help out people giving DH a go for the first time and remember the trails will be much busier than usual.

For directions, visit our website at www.gawtongravityhub.co.uk, remember the Summer Jam and Club Champs takes place at Tavi Woodlands, NOT Gawton (although Gawton is open to ride all weekend, but you will miss the fun!). Any questions email '[email protected]'. All activities and timings subject to change without notice.
