Categories filling up fast for the Bontrager Twentyfour12
24 April 2013 | By AngusMcIntoshWith just over three months to go until the start of the Bontrager Twentyfour12, one of the race categories, the 24 hour pairs, is already full and two other categories, the 24 hour solos and 12 hour solos are both close to being filled.
The mountain bike festival which takes place from 27-28 July 2013 at Newnham Park in Devon is one of the big fixtures on the 24 hour race calendar and with one category already sold out and two very close, it is predicted that all categories will be at capacity by the start of the event.
For those still looking to take part, as well as the 24 hour solos, there is still space in the open relay format for 4/5 riders and the ‘just for fun’ category for 6-10 riders. There are also still solo, pair and team places in the 12 hour race (midday start, midnight finish) and spaces in the solos only Torchbearer 12 (midnight start, midday finish).
For all competitors ,as well as friends and families, the Bontrager Twentyfour12 offers much more than just racing. It is the UK’s best mountain festival, and as well as a world class course, there is entertainment throughout the 24 hours including music, chill out areas and talks. There is also a host of stands selling endless amounts of kit and of course plenty of food and drink stands. For the kids there is a children’s only mini race on Saturday morning and a kid’s play area. With event entry entitling entrants and their supporters up to four nights camping the festival makes for a great value long weekend in Devon, and for those not used to roughing it there is also a fixed tent ‘glamping’ option.
On top of a busy entertainment line-up, racers can enjoy free 24 mechanical support, free 24 bike washing and free 24 hour massage as well as hot water and showers on site. Teams and individuals will also be able to keep full track on their progress with race commentary, live timings and timing screens.
Event director Martyn Salt is thrilled with the number of entries to date: “We are delighted to announce that our race categories are beginning to fill up. It goes to show how popular the Bontrager Twentyfour12 continues to be and that the taste for racing is still there. The good news for those not already entered is that there are still spots available in all other categories. After the winter we have had we are banking on some good weather to truly showcase our top class venue and the jam packed agenda we have this year. We are looking forward to welcoming all our competitors as well as their friends and families to Devon.”
