First Look: Whyte T-129 and 929
27 July 2012 | By AngusMcIntoshTo round up our first look at the new range from Whyte Bike's for 2013, designer Ian Alexander talks us through the new dynamic Whyte T-129 and the 120mm hardtail, the Whyte 929.
First up is the Whyte T-129.
The Whyte T-129S is the top specced offering of the 120mm trail 29er trail bike. It features the new Quad 4 suspension system which is designed to fit perfectly with the 29" wheel and leaves it with almost the same geometry as a 26" bike. This means it has a long front end with a slack head angle and short stem. That makes for a very attacking feeling cockpit.
It features Sram X9 transmission with Rockshox front and rear shocks. A Reverb dropper post and the very clever "getta grip" seatpost clamp that clamps through a window in the frame so doesn't end up bending your frame in the long run. It will have your seatpost sliding up and down freely for years to come.
It also has all the normal details we expect from Whyte. Life time warranty bearings and a ton of mud clearance. It's the small details that make the biggest differences! This is a real trail Destroyer of a bike.
The 929 is a 120mm travel 29er hardtail with a 1x10 transmission.
It features similar geometry to the rest of the Whyte range. That familiar super short back end, especially for a bike with a 29" wheel. A long front centre and a slack head angle.
It features E-Thirteen Cranks, Shimano XT Rear Mech and Fox 32 CTD Fit 120mm travel forks. The frame has lots of mud clearance which is becoming increasingly more important, especially in the great British summer.
Like all Whyte products its future proofed. With mounts to put on a front mech if the 1x10 with chain guide isn't to your liking via the direct mount on the frame and it even has ISCG mounts!
