The second round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Downhill saw solid rides from Trek World Racing with Tracy Moseley back on the podium in 4th place and team mates Justin Leov and Andrew Neethling placed 14th and 15th respectively. Taking place at Fort William in Scotland, the unexpected heat of the weekend resulted in a hard, fast track for Sunday's slightly overcast but still-dry race. For a venue that's famous for being wet and windy, the unusually dusty surface made the track particularly slippery and unpredictable but all riders rode well on their Session 88s resulting in confidence boosting rides all-round. Following a successful day of qualifications on Saturday, particularly for Andrew who secured 7th place (his best position yet at a track that has long defied him) Tracy was first out for the team on Sunday. Following an aggressive and powerful start which saw her 1st at Split One, she rode impressively throughout, maintaining her pace and coming in just 2/100th's of a second behind 3rd placed rider, Floriane Pugin (FRA). With the rain holding off, next up was Justin who rode well but struggled slightly with the loose, rough surface that presented numerous braking bumps after the intensely dry weather. Finally, Andrew took to the track with a time of just under 2 seconds faster than his qualification run ˆ a reassuring result at a venue that he's previously struggled at, and a satisfactory finish after his outstanding performance at the US Open last week. Tracy said: "I'm happy with my ride. After Maribor I'm glad to have a decent run, my ride was more relaxed and I enjoyed it and wasn't as tense as I was at Maribor. It was a good run but not quick enough and I couldn't match Sabrina's pace this time but I'm happy to be here and be back on the podium". Andrew said: "I'm taking lots of positives away from the weekend, especially the qualis which was one of my best so far. I'm especially pleased because this is a track that's not suited me in the past. I rode the top good and got a good rhythm then changed gear in the middle but couldn't find that extra gear I needed. It was pretty close at the bottom but my legs went a bit flat but like I said before, I take away a lot of positives and I've proved I can do it here where I've struggled before. I know I can be up there with them on the podium". Justin said: "I just couldn't figure it out this weekend. I felt one run out all the time, meaning that my race run felt like it should be my qualifier and I still have one run left to do! I'm a little disappointed and I need to figure this venue out. Much better than last year, but I need to regroup for the next World Cup".
