Spring update for the 7stanes trails
The trail builders have been working really hard over the last few months to ensure your 7stanes experience in 2007 is fantastic! It's great to see so many of you flocking to the 7stanes already - we've seen more people from Northern Ireland and elsewhere heading up to use the trails pre-Easter, which is brilliant. If you're heading our way via the M6, make a point of stopping off at Newcastleton; it is looking absolutely splendid! It's the ideal place to pop in and stretch your legs after a long drive, and for a spell of peacefulness before arriving at the hustle and bustle of Glentress. Below you'll find details of the new 'Essentials' Freeride Trail at Glentress, plus up-to-date information on trail building, our revised website and future events. Update from the trail building frontier Trail builder Andy Hopkins has been spending a lot of time at Dalbeattie lately. He is bursting with enthusiasm for the new blue/ red trail and says, "I just love building there". The highlight is a new section called Log On, Log Off which is a log ride onto a technical crag and a log ride off (black grade). Check out the Eye of the Needle too - a log between two rocks. As Andy says: "You're gonna love that - it'll really fry your riding!" The new blue trail at Glentrool will be ready in the next couple of months. It's going to be great fun and we know you are all desperate to give it a bash - not long now! The blue at Ae is well underway too. There's only one section of this 6km trail left to build, and then the trail builders will be moving on to the skills area at Mabie. There's been a delay in getting the Mabie skills area started, but it will be ready for early summer. Essentials at Glentress The "Essentials" Freeride Trail is due to open on Saturday 14 April and will be the third trail to be built in the Freeride Park at Glentress. A hugely popular addition to the forest, the Freeride Park, located next to the Buzzards Nest car park, is packed full of advanced level riding features including tabletop jumps, berms, raised timber trails, wall rides, and drop offs. Graded "Extreme", the park provides an ideal spot for riders looking to push their skill levels, style it up, learn new tricks or just hang out and ride with friends. And there's more... New trail building between now and the end of summer includes: Red sections at Ae and Innerleithen Green at Glentress Blue at Newcastleton Book your next trip now to try the fresh new trails as soon as possible! www.7stanes.gov.uk
