SRAM XX1 Dominates Mega Avalanche - Alpe Da Huez

16 July 2013  |

SRAM's awesome XX1 system has dominated the Alpe Du Huez Mega Avalanche with four of the top five places filled with riders rocking the awesome 1x11 system.

The Mega Avalanche is one of the worlds toughest mountain bike races, a mass-start, 20km+ descent from 3,200m, starting on glacial snow and finishing more than 2,000m below. Boasting some of the most demanding and technical terrain in the Alps, with lung-busting climbs in between.

Jerome Clementz (Cannondale Overmountain - SRAM XX1, RockShox Pike and Reverb, Avid X0 Trail, TRUVATIV BlackBox bar) took his 3rd ever career win at Mega Avalanche on Sunday, July 14th, with a masterpiece race that exemplifies what Mega is all about: strategy, total confidence in the bike and components, incredible fitness, skills and pure speed. Starting in the front row, with hundreds of riders behind him, Jerome maneuvered his bike on the snow at a speed of almost 100 km/h to stay clear of the main pack of contenders and avoid potential falls. He entered the first corner ahead of the field and maintained this position until the finish line for the win.

A defining moment came on the last grueling climb before entering the singletrack down to the finish, were Jerome made full use of the wide range gearing of his SRAM XX1 drivetrain to outsprint his competitors and establish a clear gap on the second contender.
