SRAM Athletes Dig In Down Under

The weekend started off with everyone in good spirits and excited by the improvements made to the newly established MTB park, which recently hosted its first National Round.

Comments centered on how much better the tracks are now that they had a chance to settle in.

SRAM had a good team of riders on hand, even with the absence of Nathan Rennie (Santa Cruz Syndicate) and Sam Hill (Monster Energy/Iron Horse/Mad Catz). Racers included Sid Taberlay (Avanti) for Elite Men's Cross Country (XC), Tori Thomas (Orbea) riding in Elite Women's XC, and a variety of top SRAM riders in the DH, including Ameil Cavalier (Giant).

The XC was held on the Saturday, with Downhill (DH) and Four-Cross (4X) practice taking place throughout the day. Sid Taberlay comfortably won the Elite Men's XC event, followed by Tori Thomas in the Elite Women's XC.

The DH was exciting for spectators as the course management modified the final 300 meters of the finish. There were table tops, step-ups, doubles and a couple of big berms, which slowed riders down, making them work a bit harder.

Ameil Cavalier qualified first with a time of 3:07.48, Rick Boyer (Orange) second at 3:11.49. The race run for Ameil was a carbon copy of his qualifying efforts with a winning time of 3:07.52. Boyer came in second overall and Adam Smithson (GT) third.
