Hamsterley Trailbazers’ second 1-2-1 Mountain Bike Race is less than a month away and preparations are going well.
The County Durham-based club hopes to attract 150 riders to the event over the weekend of the 3rd and 4th of September 2011. The inaugural 1-2-1 took place in September 2010 and was widely praised by riders. Hamsterley 1-2-1 combines cross country racing with a downhill competition - the twist being that you have to ride both events on the same bike. As far as we know, there’s nothing else quite like it on the UK calendar.

Organiser Dave Nicholson says, “Entries are already up on the same time last year but we’re urging people to get their entries in as soon as they can, to help us with our planning.” The event is sponsored by Orange mountain bikes, O’Neal, Red Ape Bikes at Bishop Auckland and Wood ‘n’ Wheels bike hire at Hamsterley Forest. Profits from the first 1-2-1 Race have made possible the latest Red Route singletrack extension, “Nitrous”. It is due for completion later this summer. There will be camping from Friday night, with the XC event on Saturday and DH on Sunday. Entry will cost £45 for the weekend (including camping and BBQ). You can enter via the Hamsterley Trailblazers website at www.hamsterley-trailblazers.co.uk. Entries are limited to 150 so don’t delay.
