Okefreeriders (Okehampton & Area MTB Club) are holding a northshore jam on Sunday 6th August. The event will take place at the trails built and developed by the club at Abbeyford Woods, near Okehampton.
Following the success of our first northshore jam which took place earlier this year, we're holding another event, hoping to make it even bigger and better. Okefreeriders have been building northshore trails at Abbeyford Woods near Okehampton since 2004, and the trails have been growing in popularity ever since. The woods are owned by the Forestry Commission and the club has forged a strong relationship with the organisation. 2006 has seen a lot of new trails being built with the aid of a grant provided by the Lottery funded scheme, Awards-For-All, in addition to our ever enthusiastic group of trail builders.
The event is open to non club members and we are hoping that people will attend from all over the country. There is no charge for ridingThe first event which took place on March 26th saw around 50 riders turn up to endure the wind and rain. Despite all this everyone enjoyed themselves and most said they'd return, hence the planned event. We're hoping good weather will see the number of riders swell to well over 100.
The day is set to start at 10AM, and the whole of the northshore site will be open to ride. We're then planning on having some judged sessions, with riders judged on flow and style through the various obstacles. These sessions will be judged by Norco rider Cliff Barbeary (who writes for MBUK and is manager of the Bike Park at The High Action Centre in Somerset). We've approached several bike manufacturers and distributors asking them to provide prizes, and the response has been good.
There will be food and drink provided all day in the form of a barbecue, with all proceeds going to the club.
