Going For Gold - The Biggest Showdown Is About To Begin
15 May 2012 | By gregberryOnly a few days left until the FMB World Tour presents three Gold events in only 10 days! With FISE Slopestyle in Montpellier (FRA), Red Bull Berg Line in Winterberg (GER) and 26TRIX fueled by Monster Energy in Leogang (AUT) all eyes of the Freeride Mountain Bike scene are on “Old Europe” in the next two weeks.
We are looking forward to a thrilling fight of the world top riders going for the big points in those events that can turn the entire ranking upside down. As it is the first time this season that the best European and North American athletes will meet each other to compete it is also a perfect chance for the top dogs to underline their title aspirations.
Martin Söderström (SWE) and Sam Pilgrim (GBR) already took home two victories in 2012 but also Cam McCaul (USA) and the young trick machine Anthony Messere (CAN) were on top of the podium at FMB World Tour events with an impressive level of riding. But these are just four names out of the world elite that are all competing in the upcoming events and that are highly motivated to attack Semenuk’s title.
As the result of an injury, hot favorite Brandon Semenuk from Canada has to cancel the first two gold events in Montpellier and Winterberg. Semenuk’s absence gives these riders a huge opportunity to rise above and take the lead before the title defender from last year will make it to the 26TRIX in Leogang to start collecting again World Tour points.
So what exactly can we expect in the next two weeks?
FISE Slopestyle marks the start into the Gold event season. The event kicks off in Montpellier on May 17th, located right downtown, along the banks of the Lez River. The riders will have to handle a challenging slopestyle course that starts with a nearly vertical drop in and a 16 meter gap jump over the river. No worries if you can’t make it - watch the live stream wherever you are on Thursday afternoon: Here
Red Bull Berg Line is the second of the three stops and it is promising an electrifying competition like you have never seen before. None other than Freeride legend Darren Berrecloth designed the slopestyle course that integrates a perfect variation of demanding wooden and dirt obstacles offering some of the biggest lines ever. Get in the right mood for this highlight event of the FMB World Tour with a short teaser video and make sure that you don’t miss the live webcast on www.fmbworldtour.com (Saturday, May 19 at 7.00pm CET) brought to you by the Red Bull Media House.
The 26TRIX-fueled by Monster Energy is hosted each year by the Out of Bounds Festival in Leogang (AUT). It has always been raising the bar since its first edition in 2006, when Greg Watts was the first rider ever to nail a double backflip during an international mountain bike competition. The huge dirt line provides the perfect speed for six huge jumps, which will boost the riders up to five meters in the air.
Get excited for excellent performances and an extremely high trick level in the next three Gold events! Who will be the one 2012 FMB World Tour champion? After the next two weeks we will probably have a first idea of the top candidates.
