FMD Racing 2014
25 March 2014 | By billy1979With the 2014 race season looming, FMD Racing is getting geared up for an exciting year. With a Junior World Champion and 1st & 2nd in the Junior series in 2013 plus exciting team developments, final preparations have been made to kick things off next month at Round 1 of the World Cup in South Africa.
For 2014, Tahnée Seagrave steps up to Elite and with that brings an exciting new sponsor - please welcome Devinci Cycles. According to Gabe Fox of Devinci Cycles, "FMD had a great season last year and this year things are looking even better. They have a great roster of young talent and I look forward to seeing what they can do on Devinci frames". The team are honoured to represent the brand that has continued to develop a frame that last season enabled Stevie Smith to take the World Cup title.
Having been supported by Intense since 2007, FMD, Follow My Dream was exactly that, following the dream of Tahnée Seagrave in her efforts to become World Champion and the fastest woman on the planet. Last year, she came one step closer to the dream by taking the junior title. The team cannot thank Jeff Steber @ Intense Cycles enough for not only his support but the companies belief in our goals. There will always be a very special place in the FMD hearts for this pioneer of downhill.
New bikes aren't the only change for the team, FMD waves goodbye to Mike Jones and welcomes Neil Stewart to the team. At the core of FMD's activities, is a commitment to helping young riders become world class athletes. FMD Racing recruited Mike for the 2013 season as a relatively unknown rider on the world stage and gave him the tools and support that enabled him to become one of the fastest junior racers in the world. The teams are proud to see his development as a rider continue and wish him luck for his future with new team, CRC.
Continuing this belief in developing young talent, FMD are pleased to welcome Neil Stewart to the team. Having raced nationally in the UK, Neil has the potential to set some amazing times in 2014. With a combination of strength and confidence, he oozes style. 2014 will be a learning curve for Neil but that talent will surely make him a photographer's favourite.
Providing both support and healthy rivalry to his sister is Kaos who shares her podium aspirations and has been following in her footsteps for some time. Having taken a BDS Juvenile win in 2013, Kaos has developed a rapid style and continues to grow in strength year on year; an exciting future talent. Kaos will be racing in the youth category throughout Europe.
When asked about the team's commitment to athlete development Devinci Sales & Marketing Director said; "FMD runs a clean organised program which is proven to help young riders succeed. I am stoked to be part of a program like this"
Having guided the team for 3 years now, Team Manager Tony has seen what it takes to bring young riders to the top of an ever-increasing group of talented individuals. He has learnt that raw talent alone is not enough to get them to where they want to be. Recruiting quality personnel to join the team will maximise the rider's opportunity to reach their goals.
Supporting Tony this year is Sarah Muir - as Assistant Manager. Sarah will be sharing the tasks of looking after the FMD athletes and assisting with marketing activities for the team. She is a Business Grad, WC party girl and creator of Diva Descent – Female specific DH Races, Holidays and Coaching Camps. Sarah brings a passion for both bikes and business to the team and we can't believe our luck that she's involved ;-).
Having made big gains in 2013, FMD will continue to work with Chris Kilmurray at Point1Athletic who provides athlete training and support. Chris works closely with a number of World Cup athletes providing detailed programs to fine tune their physical performance through focused nutrition and training.
Talking of fine-tuning, our Devinci's this season will be looked after by Matt Allingham. FMD Racing asked Matt to spanner for the team after he looked after Tahnée and Mike's World Championship bikes in 2013. Thoroughness and creativity are essential parts of his toolbox; the teams are stoked to have him onboard.
With 2013 producing two world titles, the FMD team are looking forward to working together to focus on athlete development and, thanks to the support of existing and new sponsors, enjoy another exciting year for FMD Racing.
FMD Racing is always looking for new and exciting talent. If you are a competitive juvenile, youth or junior racer then please contact us at: [email protected] to find out about our exciting 2015 program.
