New mountain bike trails in Dalby Forest, near Pickering, have been rated as the best of their kind in England by an influential cycle magazine.
Mountain Biking UK gave top spot in a survey to the single track routes being constructed by the Forestry Commission in the 8,600-acre wood as part of a £450,000 scheme.
Last month saw the first section of the 55 kilometre network officially opened. Now forest chiefs expect the welcome seal of approval will lure more visitors to the North York Moors.
Alan Eves, Forest District Manager, said:
“The project will give North Yorkshire the most extensive purpose built trails anywhere in England. We are now even more confident they will be the best. We’ve invested a lot of effort in getting the design right and this accolade shows we’re heading in the right direction.”
The project is a joint scheme with independent riders group Singletraction and Adrian Carter from Pace Cycles, Kirkbymoorside. Dalby’s new trails use the flow of the land and local surfacing materials to create a unique riding experience. The entire network will be officially opened next spring.
