Borderline Events 2013 Round 1 Innerleithen - Report

Check out this great report from Rich Easton from the first round of the 2013 Borderline Events Series from Innerleithen all the way up north in Scotland...

Last weekend saw the first round of the Borderline UK DH series held up at Innerleithen. Seeing photo's of snow covered fireroads and cancelled uplift days the weekend before the event didn't fill us with confidence. Thankfully it was short lived and the track which greeted us on Saturday was mainly dry and fast rolling. Innerleithen has a wealth of trails for the organisers to choose from and they picked a cracker, using Gold Run went down a treat with riders although it's not the easiest track to photograph.

The Hardtail class had a good entry and was won by Richard Acott who put quite a few DH bikes to shame with a time of 3.28, he was followed in second by Ryan Chambers and Aaron Chorlton taking third. Conrad Slack took the win in the Veteran class followed by Dave Ingleby and Justin Snell. Masters was won by none other than Dave Wardell in a time of 3.02 followed by Robert Pollock and John Young. 65 riders made up the senior class and it was Brain Anderson from the Army DH team who took the win in 3.10 ahead of Chris Maltby and Callum Mccubbing.

Dirt Norco's new signing George Gannicott took the top spot in Junior with a 3.10 a whole 10 seconds up on Ruairidh Mcritchie and Morgan Gulland. Youth was won by James Purvis with a 3.14 only narrowly beating Frazer Mccubbing by 0.25 of a second, third was taken by Bradley Swinbank.

Juvenile was won by Oliver Whitehurst who came down in 3.47 ahead of Corey Watson and Sam Mathieson. Under 18 Women was won by Lottie Mallin-Martin ahead of Lauren Beaty and Gemma Taylor. Janine Wolstenholme took the honours in the 19 and over Womens class ahead of Rhona Stewart and Sandra Scally. Calum Mcritchie took the win in the Expert class with a 3.11 beating Mitchell Skene and Billy Mathews.

In Elite third place went to the new Hope signing of Adam Brayton with a 3.01, unfortunately for him a snapped chain in the second run halted his charge. Only two riders managed to crack the 3 minute barrier and second place went to Jack Reading with a time of 2.57. The win went to local boy Lewis Buchanan who came down with a 2.55 on his final run abroad his 650b wheeled Intense.
