Fancy test-driving the latest mountain bikes, learning some cycle skills under the instruction of a qualified instructor, taking part in one of our fun competitions or even joining the Cycle Circus?
Then why not come along to a fun-packed Cycle Celebration at Haldon Forest Park, near Exeter? Cycling fans of every age are welcome!
Organised by the Forestry Commission in conjunction with Cycle Exeter, the fun starts at 10.30am until 4.30pm on Sunday 20 April at Haldon Forest Park. You can even hire a bike on the day from Forest Cycle Hire, and there will be food and drink available too.
"Over 700 cycling fans of every age turned out last year," says Forestry Commission Ranger Gemma Ingall, who is organising the event. “It was so successful that we decided to make it an annual event, and we're really looking forward to more fun and games this year.”
There’s loads to enjoy for the whole family, whether you're six or sixty. You can marvel at the mind-boggling stunts of ace British trial bike rider Andrei Burton, or pit your skills against other riders in races for under 16s organised by Exeter Mountain Bike Club from 2.30pm, the proceeds from which will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.
For the adventurous there's a Cycling Circus, featuring some of the weirdest bikes and riders you’re ever likely to see – and you can even have a go yourself. Or improve your skill on two wheels with British Go Ride cycling skills sessions for all ages run by qualified coaches, between 12 – 2pm.
Those of you into more hardcore mountain biking will appreciate the Haldon Freeriders as they build and ride on some tricky North Shore – elevated narrow wooden tracks.
Half a dozen local bike shops will be on hand for you to peruse their goods, test-ride their bikes and seek advice about all aspects of riding. Bikus from Bovey Tracey will be offering a free bike doctor service, so bring your bike along for a check up, or learn how to check your bike over yourself in one of the bike maintenance workshops being run by Simply the Bike from Torquay.
