Review:
The first 30 - 40 minutes of climb is designed to really test you. It's not actually hard, but if you are unfit, it will catch you out. Once at the top the black run is sweet. Drop your sadle all the way down, jump the table tops and flow off the drop offs and through switch backs (it's a little rocky). Quick climb back up, then back to single track, a few more little drops, bit of north shore and then the sweet final decent. Takes XC riders 1 - 1.5 hours. Cafe is great, showers and a top spec bike shop. Great day out.

long, lung busting 1st climb

Review:
a word of advice, dont try taking a kona stinky DH bike up the first climb. its painfull and not very clever. once you do get to the top of the 1st long climb its fun all the way.

Summary:
Excellent - One of The Best In The Area

Review:
One of the best things about this trail is that it contains at most a few hundred yards of fire road - the climb is technical singletrack taking 35 - 45 minutes depending on fitness. After this the climbing is over, do the optional Black run if you're brave, great fun, can get blustery in the wind! (It's a short climb up fireroad to get back to the main trail). From here the descent is split into four sections. The first is fast singletrack, with two sweet rock jumps at the bottom (they're not as bad as they look). The next section is new as of Oct 07 & is a bit more freeride, with tabletops. This section is a much better than the fireroad which you used to cycle down. The third is more singletrack with some boardwalk - be careful on this - I've seen a few people stack it here. The final part is a brilliant finish with some perfectly placed rock jumps - this is the best of the Afan trails.
