Whinlatter Forest is home to the longest purpose-built mountain bike trails in the Lake District that offer stunning views and rewarding descents.
The Altura Trail is a 19km red graded route and has been built for experienced riders with good off road skills and a higher level of fitness and stamina.
There are also fantastic views of Derwentwater, Bassenthwaite, Helvellyn and Skiddaw as the trail takes the rider to an altitude of 500m (1600ft) above Keswick.
The trail is divided into the north and south loop. Start is above Cyclewise bike shop for the 10km North loop and across the road from the main visitor entrance for the South loop.
This fantastic blue grade route is a gem waiting to be discovered. Expect flowing single track with gentle berms, rolling jumps, wide gradual climbs with technical features for the adventurous riders.
