Demo day at Delamere Forest park
Riders in Cheshire, Manchester and Merseyside are being encouraged to saddle up and get active at Delamere Forest Park as part of a 'Bike Demo Day' on Sunday 24 September. Delamere Bike Club and the Forestry Commission are marking the official launch of the Bike Club by holiding a special one-day event for people to try out new top of the range bikes and to find out more about the cycle facilities in the forest. There will also be a variety of activities including a treasure hunt and a giant barbecue. Proceeds will go towards further development of the bike facilities at Delamere. The event will take place at the Old Pale Hill near the Visitor Centre from 10am to 4pm. Simon Hough, Recreation and Environment Manager for the Forestry Commission at Delamere, says: Bike Demo Day is an ideal opportunity for local people to see the cycle facilities at Delamere Forest and give them an opportunity to trial some great new bikes. “Forests are great, safe places for cycling and mountain biking and Delamere is becoming increasingly popular with families and more energetic cycle enthusiasts as the area’s premier cycling venue.” Leading bike manufacturers Giant, Commencal and Merida will be providing free demonstrations and test rides of their latest cycle range. Anyone wishing to try one of the bikes will need to have valid photo identification and a current credit card. Cycle retailer W Homer Cycles will provide a 15% discount to new and existing Delamere Cycle Club members who purchase products on the day. A raffle will also give people the opportunity to win a range of quality bike products. Wirral Tracs Cycle Hire will be providing bike hire and basic skills coaching. Free cycle safety checks, basic cycling maintenance, proficiency and skills demonstrations will also be available. Delamere Forest Park is an ideal venue for cycling, with smooth sandy tracks and only a few gentle hills. Mature Scots pine and areas of wetland provide a tranquil setting for an afternoon’s family cycle ride. Families can try out one of two waymarked cycle trails. Hunger Hill and Whitemoor trails range from 4 to 7 miles and can take up to an hour to complete. For the more adventurous, cycling to the top of Old Pale offers superb panoramas of the Cheshire countryside or on a clear day views as far away as the Liverpool city skyline. The specially marked footpaths and cycle trails are carefully planned to guide visitors around this diverse forest. Cycle hire is available at Delamere Forest Park Visitor Centre every weekend and from Thursday to Sunday every school holiday. Group hire and cycle skills coaching are also available. Advance bookings can be made by contacting WirralTracs on 07717 886832. www.forestry.gov.ukLatest news
