Golspie riders raise over £1,400 for Highland Wildcat flyover project
Highland Wildcat Trails has received an impressive response to its crowdfunding appeal for the replacement of Golspie’s iconic wooden flyover.
The volunteer group has secured a £15,800 pledge from the Kilbraur Windfarm Community Fund towards replacing the ageing structure with an identical flyover constructed from new larch. The complete project is expected to cost £19,800, including transporting the materials to the remote site by helicopter.
Highland Wildcat must secure the remaining £4,000 before construction can begin. Further costs not included in the original proposal include creating a temporary bypass for walkers and mountain bikers during the projected four-week build and purchasing secure storage for trail-maintenance tools.
A separate crowdfunding appeal was launched with a target of £1,000, helping replace income lost when the trailhead parking machine was out of action throughout June and supporting the additional work.
The response comfortably exceeded expectations, with supporters donating more than £1,400 in approximately 48 hours.
Highland Wildcat Trails is managed entirely by volunteers, who described the response as a significant financial and morale boost. A date for the flyover replacement work has not yet been confirmed.
Riders can continue supporting the trails through the Highland Wildcat PayPal appeal.
