Thorburn Top Of The 'Tree At Second Of The Three Tens
Ewan Thorburn is top of the (Kirough)tree after a titanic tussle with close rival Michael Bossard. Ewan was crowned champion at the second of No Fuss Events' Benromach Three Tens Series of mountain bike endurance races following a hard fought battle. Both Ewan and Michael were neck and neck for the duration of the ten hour race matching each other's ten mile lap times every step of the way before Ewan pulled away in the latter stages to take the title just over 2 minutes faster across a grueling eleven laps of the course. Ewan from FAT THREAD BIKES improves on his third place at the Benromach10 under the Ben and the course in Galloway Forest Park must have suited him as he got in another lap this time with a finishing time of 10 hours 33 mins 49 secs. Ewan was joined on the winners' podiums by winners of the pairs (RAF CC), trios (Perth City & Spokes Cycles) and quads (Fyrishbikes.com) teams. All enjoyed well earned bottles of Benromach malt whisky ensuring the party atmosphere was the real winner. With a 23% increase on last year's attendance, 402 riders took part across the different classes in fantastic weather conditions and all embodied the No Fuss attitude of fun first. When it came to the riding the response, particularly from newcomers, was that Kirroughtree was the most fun 10 mile course in the whole of the UK. Featuring a climb of 350m and 70% singletrack the fast flowing twisty turny finish thrilled riders of all abilities. Frazer Coupland of organisers No Fuss, echoed the sentiments of many riders when he praised the course and overall event; 'Kirroughtree has proved to be one of the most exciting stretches of single track in Britain. Riders took to the course hungry to get to grips with the fast and swoopy, tight and rooty track, the lung busting climbs and enough cheeky bits to keep everyone on their toes. We're also really pleased with the success of the children's event on Friday which set us up for a fun family weekend. A massive thanks to the Forestry Commission, marshals and all the helpers who made it possible, the Dangleberries (Paranoid was a particular highlight) and everyone who was friendly, courteous and chatty on the course. We can't wait to see you all at the next event - 10 More in Moray!'. On Saturday 23 August 2008 the No Fuss Team will set up camp in the North East of Scotland for the final event in the Benromach Three Tens Series. The Benromach 10 More in Moray is based at Milne's High School in Fochabers and the Ordequish woods will provide an excellent environment for racing; the climbs are just enough of a test and the excitement of the singletrack trails, like the Haggis and the Soup Dragon, will put a smile on the face of any off road rider. Riders will have yet more opportunities to ride another superb endurance course and enjoy the relaxed and good fun that organisers No Fuss Events bring to their events. Along with 10 Under the Ben and 10 at Kirroughtree entrants those at Moray will also be eligible to enter the superb prize draw for the incredible chance to win an all expenses trip for two to New Zealand to take part in the Sport Southlands Moonshine Trail Event. www.nofussevents.co.ukLatest news
