New StubbyLee Park Pump track due to open by spring
A third pumptrack near Lancashire mountain bike trail centre Lee Quarry is due to open next month part of a major redevelopment at nearby Stubbylee Park.
Rossendale council, in conjunction with Newground, obtained the funding to design and build the £32,000 track near the current skate park from the Lancashire Environment Fund.
The work is being carried out by specialist, Rochdale-based contractor, Dirtwork. Weather-permitting the build period should be four weeks, with additional time usually required for the surface to settle.
Councillor Christine Lamb, portfolio holder for operations, welcomed the work.
She said: “I am pleased to see work progressing on the pump track at Stubbylee Park in Bacup and look forward to the next stage of the masterplan which will see the restoration of the duck pond and the magical fairy dell over the next few months.”
The new pumptrack will be located near to the current skate park, and a proposed ‘Valley Of Stone’ cycleway will run through the park linking over to nearby Lee Quarry and the wider, extensive bridleway network of the area.
