The UK's Matt Simmonds spent an unprecedented six years aboard Chain Reaction Cycles' race team despite numerous roster culls and rejigs. He departed the Northern Irish outfit this season for the Madison Saracen team.

A fifth at the Worlds last year was a career highlight (so far, anyway) for Matt and under the stewardship of team manager Will Longden it's a safe bet that he'll be pushing harder than ever in 2014.

We spent a weekend with Matt at the opening round of this year's UCI World Cup series in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, last weekend – check out the video above to see how it all went down.
