Fat Face Urban DH night race - Edinbrugh
Fat Face goes urban in Edinburgh City Centre with the huge new Night Ride event. Over 250 top-level mountain bike riders from all over the country will take to the streets, stairways and alleyways for THE WORLDS 1ST URBAN DOWHILL AT NIGHT RACE. An opportunity to show the public what the sport of Downhill Mountain biking is all about but with the added twist of with swapping the mountains of Scotland for the city streets & steps of Edinburgh. Date: Saturday 6th October Times: Practice & Seeding runs: 10.00am – 5.00pm Race Heats: 7.00pm – 9.30pm Location: Edinburgh, Castle & Grass market Area Background: To give a new twist to what is the amazing sport of down hill mountain biking, and raise the profile of down hill mountain biking to people both inside and outside of the sport. This is no small undertaking it has taken over 12 months work to get the get the race organised, Edinburgh Council have been really helpful along with Historic Scotland who have welcomed the event, they have worked very hard with us to make this event happen, we have received an enthusiastic response from the local people who want to see this amazing race on their streets. Race organiser Chris Roberts said, “the vibe of Edinburgh makes this the perfect city for this spectacular event, we are expecting thousands of action fans and general public to line the streets & alleyways of Edinburgh to see all the action.” The race will also feature a massive 6 metre high bridge built just for this race. There is a major construction that will span 14 metres across Johnston terrace for the duration of the race, this bridge has been designed to still allow coaches to pass underneath, due to the size of the bridge they have designed extra water tanks to hold the bridge in place. Description: Riders will be competing against the clock to get the fastest time. We have the worlds & UK’s best stars of mountain biking taking part in the event. Riders: The Following High Profile Riders Have Been confirmed: New Junior World Champion Ruaridh Cunningham, World Silver Medallist Rachel Atherton, World Bronze Medallist Gee Atherton and all the top names in British Mountain biking: Dan Atherton, Brendan Fairclough , Tom Braithwaite, Scott Beaumont, Marc Beaumont, Neil Donaugh, Will Longden & Rob Warner. Rider's categories Age range from just 12 years old up to over 40+ Juvenile 12-14, Youth 15-16, Junior 17-18, Senior 19-29, Master 30-39, Veteran40+, Expert & Pro Elite Categories Course The course is under wraps until the day before the race but it will start from the Castle at 7pm on Saturday night so will be quite easy to find and will take in the steep steps and alleyways of the city. Prize Fund £3000 is on offer to Pro riders, with thousands of pounds of prizes for all the other age categories Prize Presentations will take place in the Grass market followed by the infamous Fat Face Riders Party in a local nightclub.
