Review: Shred Belu$hki Shrastawood Sunglasses

We aren’t just fans of mountain bike kit at MoreDirt. We would like to think we know a little bit about what’s fashionable aswell…

When we were asked to review this sweet set of sunglasses from Shred Optics how could we ever say no!

The glasses in question as modeled by Dom who was in with us for some work experience!

A little bit about Shred…

Shred Optics were found and created by Olympic Gold Medalist and multiple World Cup Giant Slalom Skiing Champion Ted Ligety along with avid skier/engineer Carlo Salmini. The brand was started with a desire to make the products that they desired, not the bottom line.

Fast forward a few years along with a line of sweet sunglasses Shred also have a large variety of lines in the ski helmet, goggle and accessory sector and this is only set to get bigger.

The Glasses…

Our set of “BELU$HKI Shrastawood Handcrafted Sunglasses” were pretty impressive straight from the case. These are a bit more than your average pair of glasses from Boots.

The build quality is second to none with the frames being made from multilayer acetate to increase strength and make the frames a bit more susceptible to wear and tear. The chunky and substantial wooden arms operate on forged 5-barrel hinges and give a very reassuring feel when closing the arms. The super cool iridescent orange lenses even get the Carl Zeiss seal of approval.

No stone was left unturned when it came to creating the Belu$hki!

On the Bike...

We have spent some time riding bikes in these glasses but admittedly it was more riding out to the local pub for an afternoon in the beer garden than hitting the local loop for a trail ride.

They didn’t interfere with helmet straps so in my eyes (excuse the pun) they were pretty much perfect!

Conclusion

If Sunglasses have two main purposes to serve… Keeping sun from eyes and to looking cool! The Belushki's pass both with flying colours.

The design is cool and I certainly had plenty of comments on the lollipop looking wooden arms!

If your looking for a new pair of sunglasses that will both turn heads on and off the bike at the same time as keeping your eyes protected from the sun I wouldn’t write off a pair of belshki’s from Shred.

The only thing that puts me off is the £120 pricetag. It’s a lot of money for a pair of glasses that even with their strong 5-barrel hinges and multilayer acetate frames would sadly still suffer the innevitable if you sit on them… At least you would have been looking cool right up until that moment!

A super cool and unique set of sunglasses that will have you looking fly both on and off the trails but it comes at a price!
