The Samson Bros - Eyesdown Films

Eyesdown Films caught up with 2 of the most talented brothers in Dirt Jumping. Blake and Ray Samson and produced something rather special! Check it out!

It all started when I had a Brother to play with, ever since he was old enough to walk and talk it was game on. Our first taste of two wheels was when dad bought us BMX’s; he took us to our first BMX race back in Zimbabwe.

We grew up and found the love for Moto and yet again Dad bought both of us our first MX bikes. Living on 5,000 acres of farm land we were not short of riding space. The love of two wheels runs through the whole family, from my gran back in the late 70′s early 80′s. So growing up with the passion of bikes and dirt; it was destiny for Ray and I.

Life as a farmer for my Dad was going well growing Oranges, Grapefruits, Cotton, Wheat, Tobacco and Mangos. Farming turned for the worst, when the government turned against the white farmers demanding that they wanted there land back. A number of our close family and friends lost there land and their lives. Due to what was going on, Mum and Dad came to the UK in 2000 for a family wedding, it was not just the wedding that Dad was in the UK for, but to secure a job as well. Soon after we moved to the UK.

Tell you what, we hit the floor with excitement! We moved straight to a small island off the South Coast of the UK called the Isle of Wight. Moving to the UK only made our love for bikes grow stronger. So this is where the road to becoming a professional mountain biker started, with a pile of old rusty mountain bikes and BMX’s we built up what we could and made two good rideable bikes.

Having someone to ride with 24/7 and live with was the best thing ever. A brother and best friend in one, what more can you ask for. There has always been a bit of competition between us which is great, it helps us to push each other further.

These days it’s harder to ride and shred together like we use to all the time. Having what you call a hobby turn into a way of life and having to do it everyday makes it hard to catch up and ride together. But when that time comes and it’s a perfect day for riding, we have the craziest shred ever no matter if we’re riding trail, DH, freeride, surfing, golf. It’s RAD having a brother around!
