Sram XC Athletes Take Double Podium at Nove Mesto

SRAM ATHLETES, SCHURTER AND ZAKELJ GRASP THE WORLD CUP OVERALL LEAD WITH DOUBLE VICTORIES IN NOVE MESTO.

The second round of the UCI Cross Country World Cup returned to Nove Mesto, Czech Republic this past weekend with SRAM sponsored athletes clenching both the Elite Men’s and Women’s top podium spot.

Always a safe bet for a World Cup win, and current World Champion, Nino Schurter (Scott Swisspower) came away victorious on the weekend riding a SRAM XX1 drivetrain. With nearly an hour and a half of head- to-head battling, the race eventually came down to a full sprint at the finish where Nino came out on top aboard his SRAM XX1 equipped Scott.

In the Women’s Elite field, Tanja Zakelj (Team Unior Tools) claimed her very first World Cup win riding a SRAM XX drivetrain, RockShox SID suspension and Avid XX brakes.

Zakelj fought hard through all 5 laps staying with the lead attack group. It all came down to the final corner where another competitor crashed giving Zakelj a clear sprint to the finish.

Schurter, being no stranger to the top spot on the podium regained his overall lead in the series while this was Zakelj first ever World Cup victory. Zakelj has also taken the overall lead in the UCI World Cup standings for the women’s field. They will both have a short break before kicking back up in Val di Sole, Italy on June 15-16th for the next round of the UCI Cross Country World Cup.
