TweedLove Glentress Seven now open for entries

It’s the fastest growing cycling festival in the UK – and now TweedLove’s flagship endurance event is open for entries.

Taking place on Saturday June 1st, the Glentress Seven will see riders take on an 11km route of singletrack in Glentress – and try to cram in as many laps as possible in seven hours. Entrants can compete as an individual or in teams of two and three, and will be treated to some of the most exciting trails the UK has to offer.

The course will feature some of Glentress’ best loved sections, but will also include a number of secret trails that will be closed off again as soon as the event is over.

A complete sell out last year, TweedLove organiser Neil Dalgleish said he expects the Glentress Seven will prove even more popular this year.

“The Glentress Seven has been such a huge hit because it appeals to every level of rider. More experienced riders can tackle the route solo and really push themselves over the seven hours, whilst others can enter with friends and take it a bit easier.

“Each lap is roughly 11 kilometres and includes around 450m of climbing and descents. Teams ride in relay, so there’s only one team member on the course at any given time. Timing is done via an electronic chip that is worn round the ankle. When a rider crosses the timing mat at the end of a lap their time is recorded and they then pass the chip onto the next team member and so on. Riders can do as many laps as they want – or their legs allow - within the allotted seven hours.

“One of the best aspects of the Glentress Seven is we get to access a selection of trails that aren’t usually open to the public. They add a great dynamic to the event because even if you’ve ridden at Glentress a hundred times before, you won’t have been on these routes.”

And it’s not just participants that will be treated to a good day out, there’s plenty on offer for non-riders too. There will be a great atmosphere in the event village and with the British Downhill Series taking place just over the road the very next day, there may even be the chance to spot the odd superstar in the vicinity…

Entries go live on the TweedLove website (www.tweedlove.com) on Wednesday, December 12 at 12 noon - and what’s more, early bird entrants will get a 15 per cent discount! And if you’ve not finished your Christmas shopping yet, then check out the TweedLove gift vouchers available on the website.
