First Look: Intense Spider 29 Comp

Eurobike attendees will be among the very first to view Intense's most recent venture into carbon fiber, the Spider 29 Comp - the forth in Intense's line of carbon fiber mountain bike frames. The Spider 29 Comp is aimed at the xc/trail segment and offers all Intense's signature features, as well as some new surprises.

"This model is the cumulation of a year and a half of design and engineering work with our partners, SEED engineering and is one of the most exciting Intense frames to date", says Intense Designer & President, Jeff Steber. "We feel we have hit the nail on the head for this segment"

The Spider 29 boasts modern trail geometry while the combination of patented VPP suspension and 29" wheels are magical ingredients for maintaining rolling momentum through the rough stuff, as well as on the climbs. It brings all the features Intense is known for: adjustable travel (4.5 - 5"), G1 dropout system, proven ride quality and exceptional esthetics, but also has some new tricks up its sleeve like internal cable routing, tapered head tube, special internal cable routing for the Rock Shox Reverb Stealth dropper post and comes stock with the Fox Float CTD Kashima coat rear shock.

All this and still weighs in at 5.5 lbs.

A few pre-production samples have been floating around the shop and recent demos. Everyone that has been lucky enough to steal a quick ride on the new Spider 29 Comp has been blown away. The bike allows you to climb with ease as it should but the awe-inspiring part about its performance is really how nimble the bike is while cornering and pushing through the technical sections. With a 17.5” Chainstay the bike does not feel like a normal 29er. You can still needle your way through a techy section as if you were on a shorter bike. Many of the initial comments from riders include thoughts like “Confidence Builder, Game Changer and Surprisingly Nimble”.

"This bike has made me a better rider," says Steber.

Additional features on the Spider 29 Carbon include adjustable travel. As mentioned the SP29-C will have two travel settings allowing the bike to really take on a dual personality. In the 4.5” mode, the bike has an extremely solid pedaling platform that will wow any of the hard hammering XC racer type riders. In the longer 5” travel mode the bike becomes a trail monster that will gobble up rocks, roots and chatter. Choose your poison with the Spider 29 Comp. 4.5” w /120mm front fork for the XC ride of your life or go 5” w /140mm fork for the 29er trail bike of your dreams! With Intense, the choice is up to you!

The Spider features very swarve looking internal cable routing

Adding to the options, the Spider 29 Comp will come in two colorways, Naked Black w/ Gold and Naked Black w/ Gloss Red accents.
